Librairie Plon. Original green cloth, front cover with color illustration and red/black lettering, gilt emblem to rear cover "labor omnia vincit improbus", page edges are red, endpapers are blue, each page with text (in French) and a color illustration of a scene from late 19th century Paris life. Undated, late 1880s.; Oblong , 10-3/4" x 9" (27,3 x 23 cm); 48 pp; Boards soiled, worn at top/bottom of spine and at lower right corner. Both hinges are loose, cracked at title page held together only by cords, visibly cracked at rear endpapers as well. Pages show a faint wave along top edge (no staining) and have generally light (though with occasional larger spots of) foxing. No inscriptions or writing apart from old sellers pencil notations inside rear cover.

Boards edgeworn, binding repaired with cloth tape retaining portion of original spine (hinges now solid), the occasional passage highlighted with pencil in the margin, two pages in catalogue at rear with notes in pencil. Interesting bookplate reading Jamais Arriere and History, Science, Literature, Theology (partly obscured by library pocket). This is the motto of Clan Douglas (Never Behind).
