A volume in The Jules Verne Library. Translated by Henry Frith, printed by the Crystal Palace Press. Publishers blue cloth with cover illustrations front and spine. This volume with the bookseller stamp for Doxey, Importers, San Francisco. Undated copy, later 1880s to early 1890s. ; 5" x 7"; 270, [2] (ads) pp; William Doxey would become a printer and later publish The Lark. ; Covers worn, discolored spine and area of front panel, waterstaining at spine top seen only from outside the book (not visible on pages), prior owner name stamped on FFEP. Spine cocked, hinges remain solid, a few creased corners, one with a tiny loss, foxing to page edges.

Books signed by this author are uncommon. Taken together, they provide a window into the author's longtime relationship with the Carlisles. A finely bound set, with leather (calf) spines and corners, spines with red labels denoting series title, gilt decorations and individual volume titles on spine, top edge gilt, marbled boards and endpapers, each volume with guarded frontispiece and additional illustrations on plates. Note that this set is heavy. It has been priced to include USPS Media Mail shipping within the continental U.S. for the normal shipping charge. Shipping to other locations or by other methods will cost more. ; 5-1/2" x 8"; Still an attractive set, though with flaws. Individual volume conditions vary from Good to VG+. Many volumes have minor defects, such as nicked corners, wear at spine tops, wear along edges of boards. Four volumes have waterstaining, seen faintly on the spine and page edges, limited within to the first and last few pages, no odor. One volume has two loose signatures. A few volumes show splts to the leather at the hinges. Hinges remain solid, no ownership markings, pages clean and unmarked. Additional info and images available on request.

Also, the word Authors is taken from the spine; it does not appear at all on the title page.
